Social Mediator Robot

Member: Yohei Noguchi.
Keywords: Social mediator robot, self-disclosure, socially assistive robot, and robot for elderly care.

Encouraging self-disclosure is crucial to prevent social isolation of elderly people. In this research, we discuss a use case of social robots as social mediators in which they are used to intermediate remote communication between elderly people and their family members or friends. We are exploring proper design guidelines of the social mediator robot based on studies in which more than 1,200 elderly people participated.

It was found that social mediator robot encourage self-disclosure of elderly users, particularly in topics that they usually feel difficulties to self-disclose. Design guidelines are obtained depending on personal traits of elderly users.
